For the Overwhelmed: 10 Bible Verses to Carry You Through
Hey, friend.
Are you feeling overwhelmed today? Are the kids driving you crazy?
Is work piling up? Or worse—the bills?
Are you facing a season of change, a loss, or just the quiet, heavy weight of everything?
If so, I’m really glad you’re here.
We have this quiet tendency—as moms, wives, sisters, daughters—to try and carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. After carrying our babies, we somehow believe we’re meant to carry everything else too.
But hear me:
You were never meant to carry it all.
You were never meant to hold every burden.
There is One who already has—and He wants to carry you, too.
That is God, our Heavely Father, who never fails us.
And whether you’re running on empty, deep in grief, or just trying to make it through the day without falling apart, He sees you. He hasn’t left you. And He isn’t expecting you to be stronger than you actually are.
I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed.
Honestly, I’ve always been a worrier. I love deeply, so when others hurt, I tend to carry that pain with them. And now, as a single parent, the pressure has only grown.
Some days, it feels like I’m holding up the sky—and it’s starting to fall.
But along this journey of faith, I’ve found something I cling to when I feel like I’m about to break:
God’s Word.
Scripture has been my anchor in anxious moments, my comfort on tear-stained pillows, and my reminder that I’m not alone—even when I feel like it.
So today, I want to share 10 Bible verses that have helped me when I feel overwhelmed. I pray they help you breathe deeper, pray more honestly, and lean into the One who will never ask you to carry what only He can hold.
10 Bible Verses for When You Feel Overwhelmed
1. PROVERBS 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
One of my life verses. A reminder to breathe, release control, and trust that God knows what I don’t—and that’s a good thing.
2. ISAIAH 40:11
“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”
This one makes me cry every time. As a mom, knowing He gently leads me—that He holds me close to His heart—is everything.
3. PSALM 61:2
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
When I can’t hold myself up, He lifts me. When I don’t know what to do, He remains steady.
4. MATTHEW 11:28–30
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus never called us to hustle. He called us to rest in Him. Let this be your permission slip to put the heavy things down.
5. PHILIPPIANS 4:6–7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…”
Bring your worries to Him. Every single one. He’s listening, and He’s not overwhelmed by what overwhelms you.
6. PSALM 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
He is not distant. He is present—in the chaos, in the carpool, in the quiet breakdown in the bathroom.
7. 2 CORINTHIANS 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
You don’t have to be enough. You don’t have to be strong. He already is. His power is made perfect in our weakness, and He is a safe place to be weak.
8. ISAIAH 26:3
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Peace isn’t found in controlling the situation—it’s found in trusting in Him.
9. PSALM 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Overwhelmed, anxious, undone? He’s not far. He’s close. Right here, even now.
10. JOHN 16:33
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Trouble is promised. But so is victory. He has overcome—and because of that, we can breathe.
Final Encouragement
If you’re in a season of “too much,” I want you to know you’re not the only one. You’re not weak. You’re not failing. You’re just human. And us humans need Jesus.
Let His Word carry what you can’t today.
Speak it out loud. Write it on sticky notes. Memorize the one that sticks.
And when you forget everything else, remember this:
You’re not alone. You’re being held. You’re already one of the found.
With you in it,
Taylor
One of The Found
